The 
Hemingway Lock set from Collector's Workshop is a classic mentalism magic trick involving a heavy-duty padlock and a set of keys. The performer can correctly open the lock after multiple spectators have failed, even after they have swapped keys. 
What it is
  • The trick: Five keys and one large, solid padlock are used. Several spectators freely select keys and attempt to open the lock without success. The magician then takes the final key and easily opens the lock, creating a "reputation-maker" effect.
  • The lock: It is a heavy, polished chrome padlock with an imposing appearance, weighing almost two pounds. It is deliberately designed to look and feel substantial to eliminate suspicion that it might be a cheap, gimmicked prop. When it opens, it does so with a distinct, resounding snap.
  • The method: The lock's mechanism allows the performer to be the only one who can open it, without relying on electronics, special switches, or magnetic components.
  • The routine: The set often includes keys with different colored collars, allowing for a color-reading presentation, but these can also be removed.
